Parcel from China

I just got the Post Office’s notice that I got parcels from China. These must be the books that I shipped from Shanghai mid of Jan. I was not expecting them for another month, as the journey was supposed to be three months or more.

It is weird that the two parcels’ notices were sent to different addresses although I put the same address on the parcels. :( Anyway, I had to make two trips to theh Post Office because of that.

I only paid Rs30 (about USD1) for each parcel. Although they are of different sizes. The costs were for storage or something similar.

Well, I bought the 59cmx29cmx37cm box - which I found was the favourite with most students - at the larger post office for about 30rmb. You can put up to 20kgs in it. Anything over it, they ask you to send the excess weight in another box.

Remember not to seal the carton as they will inspect your stuffs at the PO, verify it contains no unauthorised stuffs, before sealing the box in your presence. The big box I paid around 380rmb, and I paid another whopping 125rmb for a mere 3.5kgs in a smaller 29×17x19 box that had two big dictionaries and a book.

JP was saying you could get cheaper if you find private people shipping stuffs back home. You could ask him for more details.

Note that here the PO guys back home check the parcels more closely than a few years before. They do take out many of the stuffs out during the check.
