White New Year’s Eve?
I just checked the weather forecast. It’s some snowflakes today (Saturday) and some morning snow tomorrow (Sunday). Just as I am typing this now (it’s 4.34am), there are some snowflakes that are falling down, but it’s the type that will soon melt away as it touches the ground. Still, I can hope to have some [...]

Limited internet
Since the earthquakes that happened earlier in Taiwan, the internet in mainland China has suffered largely.
I was online chatting with someone in Fujian province when the earthquake happened. My friend suddenly went “Earthquake! Earthquake!” and fled away from the computer. I was rather surprised and left a message asking if she was ok. Some [...]

The Godfather of Soul has gone
I just learnt that James Brown has died. He’s the Godfather of Soul music. If you don’t know his music, then you’ve got to go and listen at least once in your life. I got you (I feel good), Sex Machine, I Got the Feelin’, Give It up or Turnit a Loose …. [...]

Cannot listen to London’s Capital Radio
When I was studying in London, I used to keep my radio locked onto Capital FM (as Capital Radio was more commonly called then). It was, in my opinion, the best station at the time, and the polls backed that view. When I came to China, I sometimes would log into their website and listen [...]

The Curse of the Golden Flower 黄金甲
This afternoon I went to see ‘Curse of the Golden Flower’ (黄金甲). It’s a Zhang Yimou 张艺谋 film, and the main characters are Chow Yunfat 周润发 who plays the role of the Emperor; Gong Li 巩俐 as the Empress; and Jay Chow 周杰伦 as the prodigal son. Other important characters in the film are [...]

It’s been reasonably cold this week, but today it’s been really, really cold… Day temperature of about 1C and night temp of about -8C not considering the winds that are blowing. I had been with a language partner for the better of the afternoon. When we broke up for dinner and stepped outside, it was [...]

Laptop problems
In addition to the power cable being very loosely fixed to my laptop, meaning I have to keep the battery on all the time, my laptop has given me the BSOD (that stands for Blue Screen Of Death) twice during this month…. I haven’t had it since I had the whole WinXP reinstalled around May, [...]

Happy Birthday Mum
My mother is holding her big birthday celebration this Saturday. I am the only kid who’s overseas and not attending it. So sad. Hope they had a good time and I wish my mum Happy Birthday!

我妈这个周六举行了她的生日宴会。我是在海外的唯一一个孩子,而且不参加。真可怜。希望他们过的很快乐。祝妈妈生日快乐!

Lesson taught by a prostitute
Last evening I went to visit an auntie who was passing through Beijing. While waiting outside her room for her to get ready to go out for dinner, I noticed the hotel massage lady leaving the neighbour’s room. So today I was going through a Google search about learning massage in Beijing and came through [...]
