Cannot listen to London’s Capital Radio

capitalradio.gif

When I was studying in London, I used to keep my radio locked onto Capital FM (as Capital Radio was more commonly called then). It was, in my opinion, the best station at the time, and the polls backed that view. When I came to China, I sometimes would log into their website and listen to the live radio programs. Of course, it would all bring back good memories of a lost era.

Nowadays, none of the DJs that I knew from my time in UK are still on Capital Radio. Nor do I know if Capital Radio is still THE radio station to listen to. I did listen to their podcast earlier this year, and they seemed quite cool. They’ve got their own style, but still lively and funky.

Today, I tried to listen to the music there, so as to get the Christmas spirit a little… But I was dismayed to find that overseas people can no longer access the music. At least, they ought not to. I used a postcode I know in London to try and access the live music, but the bandrate with it is far too slow… about 2kb/s only. Maybe it’s my internet server that is the problem, but it looks like I’m no longer going to be able to enjoy Capital FM while in Beijing.

Goodbye Capital FM. Thanks for the good time. You lifted my spirits many times when I was low, and you kept me uptodate with the popular music. I will miss you sorely.

(For those wondering, I’m now starting to listen to Virgin Radio live and the connection’s fine)

I listen to a radio station called 2-Ten FM (http://www.2tenfm.co.uk). I find regional stations better because trends and news are more relevant. Otherwise, if I am driving, I listen to Virgiin Radio or Heart. BBC Radio 4 is gaining a lot in popularity as well.
