End of anonymity for Chinese blog users

According to an article in China Daily’s website at the end of last year, the Chinese bloggers are facing a possible end to their anonymity. The government’s body says it’s “to standardize and develop its blog industry”, while the pros say “online libel and slander originates from the poison pens of cowards who hide behind their anonymity” and the cons say “blogging is a modern grass-roots phenomenon that is flourishing because people are free to express themselves without fear.” More about this can be read here For me personally, I like the pseudo-anonymity that I enjoy here. Most of the people that read my blog / visit my website do so because they know me, but there is no direct mention of my full name or those of my friends / relatives. And I don’t want to be compelled to disclose my ID just because I have a blog even though the authorities are unlikely to care much about what I wrote. It’s just that I don’t want the impression of being compelled to do something.
