Laptop dead
My old laptop has finally hit the bucket. I don’t know if the thunders that were going off during most of the week have anything to do with it. But now Windows’s crashed and all reinstallation has failed. I keep getting missing dll or hardware failure notice.
Of course, all the pictures I was too lazy to upload or save to my external harddisk are gone. Pictures of Tuanjiehu park, outdoor B&W Chinese movie (just outside McD) ….

Same happened to me - well, at least I learned to keep backups!
As you have Ubuntu category I assume you use Linux and apparently you have an external hd!
So *very* easy way to backup with Ubuntu (or any Linux) is to make a shell script like:
#!/bin/sh
sudo rsync -uvvrtp ‘/home/homedir’ ‘/media/myexternalhd/backup_of_my_homedir’
Then you can either run this manually, or script it to be run when hd is plugged, or with crond… no more excuses not to take backups ;) you can also add –delete flag to clean deleted files from the backup target too.

Yes, I wanted to install my Ubuntu again, but the LiveCD is apparently damaged. I did a checksum on it and one of the components returned a mismatch.
I’m hoping to get Beryl on my next laptop. ![]()
