Macao

Last Saturday afternoon, after my friend closed his office around 5.30pm (Official closing time is noon :P), I accompanied him and his wife to Macao with the sole intention of seeing The Venetian, a newly opened casino dubbed largest casino in Asia (the world?).

We took the hovercraft - about 45minutes trip from the HK port to Macao. I must say that while waiting for the boat to start, it was rocking on its side quite heavily and I started to feel a headache and slightly sick. But once it moved, it was fine. The boat had a good speed and it was pretty smooth sailing. (Cost about 150HKD for the ticket I think)

Once we disembarked there, I got a 1mth visa for Macao for HKD100. The Macao currency is silghtly lower thank HKD, about 1.03 I seem to recollect. But generally you can pay directly in HKD on a 1:1 rate.

So we then took the free hotel coach opposite the exit gate and reached the hotel some 10mins later. I must say the exterior was not as impressive as I would have thought. I’ll put up a fuzzy picture of the building after I get back home. The place was big with the usual shopping centre on the ground/1st floor, and on the 2nd floor there was a fake river with gondolas.

The casino was not bad at all, but I didn’t take any picture as you’re not allowed to do so. I won about 20dollars on the one arm bandit. My friend and his wife did better than me. We only played a little for fun and stopped while we were still winning.

After spending a couple of hours there, we then went to the Grand Lisboa, another casino there. The reason for that was for the buffet. For under 200HKD you had a big choice of food to select, including many seafood. I had an amazing cheesecake there. So good. :D

The Grand Lisboa also has a cabaret show called “Tokyo nights”. I’ll let you imagine what kind of show that is. I’ll just say that it’s for adults. ;)

We went back to HK around 1am, happy but extremely tired. Dozed on the boat back. :D
