New HP laptop finally received
I have finally received the long-awaited HP laptop. I was supposed to get it while in HK on my way back to Mauritius but for some reasons it wasn’t ready. Last weekend I got it from a cousin who brought it for me in her luggage (she already had her own business laptop with her).
It’s not a super duper laptop, but God did I miss having my own laptop. It’s one of those which you can use your digital finger scan to log in instead of using passwords. Didn’t ask for it, but well, maybe I can stop trying to remember all sort of passwords now.
What does scare me is the fact that the laptop has no installation disk!
The installation software is in part of the harddisk, under D-drive. At least I think it’s part of the harddisk and not a separate harddisk. What would happen if the harddisk crashed? Would I still be able to reinstall Vista and the other stuff? I mean, if Vista crashes, it’s ok. I can start the D-drive to re-setup Vista. But if D-drive crashes? I ‘test’ my computers’ capacity a lot through installation of various softwares, and it is likely that the new laptop will crash (software wise or hardware wise).
Right now, I have noticed that installing my translation software (Chinese-English Kingsoft Powerword) resulted in a dll problem, so I had that uninstalled.
I have to look for a serial number for the MsOffice 2007 student version that is on the laptop. It’s only a trial-version. So far I’ve drawn a blank on the net. I also need to find a crack/serial number for the CS3 Dreamweaver otherwise I won’t be able to update my website…. I don’t know how I didn’t have a backup of the old Dreamweaver and its serial number. Would have saved me from lots of hassle.
Will put up a picture of the laptop later.
