In fact, at the time I was taking my ACCA exams in London, more than ten years ago, this was already common. We would have Malaysian students calling their friends at home, or receiving calls from them, telling them what topics came out. Due to the time difference the Malaysian would then have about 2-3 hours to revise said topics.

Of course, as we came aware of such events, the Mauritian students would try and find Malaysian friends who would pass on such valuable information. It was thought more as a levelling the ballgame between foreigners than cheating together. Evidently, it was not fair to other candidates.

However, there’s only so much it can help you with if you had not seriously studied before. The 3hrs cramming of main points can help achieve a pass mark if you’re a borderline failure, but if you’ve been a lazybum for the whole semester, you can’t expect miracles (normally). These students were more concerned with a passmark rather than winning the top prize remitted to the world’s best students.

Anyway, it is interesting that they’ve been using Facebook as one of the means of transmitting the tips. I guess the users must by now have changed all their personal data and probably deleted personal pictures. But how successful would the Mauritian government be in tracking them and what kind of punishment would be meted out to them? I still remember the government last year blocking the site and having the site administrators pull down the fake profiles of senior local political figures.

Completely unrelated, considering trying Google Chrome, but I already have FF and Opera installed in addition to the default IE. Adding a 4th web browser would be too much. Maybe I’ll wait until it’s no longer in the Beta stage.

Need to delete several files, then maybe I can have enough space to use for Ubuntu again. But I heard that having dual OS could reduce the speed of your computer. Wonder if it is true.

Forgot to backup my phone before upgrading the software. Now I’ve lost some important phone numbers.

Losing SMS I don’t really care that much, but how can I contact the girls again? Oops, did I say girls? I meant some contacts’ details. Haha.

Still haven’t installed new theme as I can’t use my laptop to make file transfers/upgrades. Probably will install the Vita theme. Simple but nice.

That’s it for now. It rained heavily with gales of winds late evening and during the night. I forgot to close the balcony windows and my clothes got wet. Too lazy to re-wash them. Hope they aren’t dirty.

I have a song that I linked to the blog, and somehow people were downloading it from the site (I blame Yahoo, Google, etc for finding out about the song :D ), thus the incredible traffic. I have deleted the song from my site and will revert the blog theme later after I have removed the link. I am at the office and don’t have the time to look in which file I inserted the script for the blog page template.

Or maybe I’ll just use download a new theme. The one I have been using dates from last year. Yeah, I’ll do that. New theme tonight.

However, once the bloody thing is completely installed and you click it open, IT’S IN FRIGGING CHINESE!!!!!

Just had to get it off my chest.

Last week I got a message on my QQ, of all people it was sent to me by my Chinese ’sister’ now living in America. It called for the boycott of Carrefour on May 1st. This kind of message has now been posted for on many Chinese forums and circulated via msn/QQ.

And today, the Chinese MSN users are displaying a (L)China (that’s Love China) on their name/message. See my picture below. It’s apparently a sign of Chinese unity towards the Olympic issue and against France/Carrefour.

Also, I saw on a website a guy saying the cops stopped him when he was illegally riding on his motorbike. And the question the cop asked him was “are you French?” before seizing the bike. He isn’t French, but it shows the animosity Chinese people are feeling towards the French.

Of course, it’s not all towards French. As I said, the Chinese are not happy with the Western media and China has apparently requested for a CNN commentator to apologise for having said bad things about China.

The anti-Western sentiment that has been brooding lately (even before the Tea bet thing) is now getting worse. Visa checks, registration, renewals etc are all getting tougher.

Will this keep going until the Olympics? Who knows. But some expats are starting to complain that because of the actions of people outside China, they (the foreigners in China) are suffering unnecessarily.

I guess we’d better keep low profiles this year.

Since yesterday, it has not been possible to access Youtube and for most of the yesterday you could not access Yahoo.com mail. For some reason it was only yahoo.com, not yahoo.co.uk or yahoo.fr mails. Probably because the Yahoo.com website had an article on unrest in Tea-bet. Although Yahoo is now accessible as well as the articles about Tea-bet, Youtube remains blocked. The reason for that is the existence of several videos showing unrest in Tea-bet.

Forums where the word Tea-bet comes up triggers the Netnanny and the Great Firewall of China gets in motion. Access to the sites become slow and time-outs become more often.

It is to prevent this site from suffering the same fate that I have changed the name of the region.
