I saw it in a Taiwanese variety show once. Same principle except that instead of scraping, you have to use a special stick to hit yourself repeatedly on certain areas on the body. In the show, they did it on the arm and after about 1 min, there was a black spot which appeared. It doesn't look like a bruise because it was so black.
